.....how about if we do some research, read some profiles of some posters that we don't readily recognize, and say something nice about them?.

Okay, my turn! I chose PaulJ. He's DA'd and from his first post and a few others he's gone through a lot of crap, but he still manages to have an optimistic outlook on life, an attitude i could aspire to.
And he's a Liverpool fan, not that I'm one but I like anyone who doesn't support Manchester United (if you read this Paul - nice win last Saturday BTW )
I just looked at the BigBoard stats and they seem to confirm what Danny said. If I read them right, we'vre had a low but are now upwardly mobile (even though we are slipping down the rankings!).
Plus I couldn't get on here yesterday after 10.45pm UK time - I just got the 'busy or broken server' message (dunno if that has any significance to how busy this site is or not, just thought I'd mention!).
don't have the book?
no problem.
here's the link:.
Here's my thiughts plus a few other observations:
As to whether Mr Jones was a sympathetic character, I think he was more sympathetic than he was made out to be by Major. What looked like abuse from the animals' point of view may not be so from the practical, human view. For example, he did feed the animals and look out for their welfare (could have done better but shown by him getting up in the early hours to ensure no foxes were attacking the animals)
I think Major did misrepresent humans - by using emotive language and words like slavery, starving and telling the animals what miserable lives they were living - in spite of the fact that none of them appeared to be miserable! They only believed they were miserable when the idea that they could 'have more' was planted in their minds.(live forever on paradise earth, don't get destroyed at Armageddon...)
In a way, too, Major was probably the least likely to experience hardship, even in lean times - he was the prize boar and would have had extra special care lavished upon him (eg having his own stall). He was described as being fat - compare with the declaration that they are barely fed enough to live on!! (Lies, lies lies!!!)
I loved the way his speech started off gently and then gradually grew more alarmist and hate filled, building up from 'the miserable existence of the animals then starting to blame man and finally, man is suddenly the ultimate enemy who does absolutely nothing good to help animals! (Not sure how closely this relates to WT history, but they do appear to have become more 'hostile' to Christendom over the decades)
Finally there was the dream that Major couldn't remember which you also mentioned - strange how he 'remembered' the words to that very long song with a very simple tune!
(Pasted from other thread for clarity!)

Sorry I'm not techie enough to know how to embed a web page on here yet!
I found this site as a follow-up to my 'algae' theory. It's about a particular type (with a long name beginning with 'c'!) which is calcium based and is very good at reflecting light (see the bottom of the page for an image of some off South America). The closer it is to the surface, the brighter it will get. Since (I assume) the water is pretty cold around PEI, and it's salt water (?) too, the water may be quite dense enabling the algae to be very close to the surface. Edit: Gee I'm so slow at typing - well in case it isn't Pictou Island....!

My biology and anthropology isn't too good but maybe someone can interpret what I'm thinking of!
Maybe it's a colony of fluorescent plankton or a large algal bloom or something like that? (I'm thinking along the lines of the 'sargasso sea' or blue-green algae).

something that always bothered me as a jw was the lack of praise and worship with music at meetings , yeah there were the tapes of dull and uninspiring piano music along with the same songs that noone ever felt enthusiastic about - i actually remeber feeling embarrassed whenever i had invited a bible study or interested person along to a talk and the singing was just pathetic.. singing durring the meetings was never considered a serious act of worship, but an opportunity to visit the bathroom etc.
i also found it sad that those who did have a musical talent could not use that talent in worship - no alternative forms of musical instruments were permitted inside the kh other than the wts piano tapes - no freedom of expression to worship and praise god was ever allowed , it seems that the gb want to rob jw's of the experience of joy in worshipping god.. now that i have experienced worship and praise in a spirit filled church , i can testify just how liberating freedom of expression in worship can be...i recently came across "the psalm drummers" and highly recommend getting the cd.. http://www.psalmdrummers.org/.
it seems that the GB want to rob JW's of the experience of joy in worshipping God
Wonder what they'd have made of that darned king David dancing around in his underwear when the Ark went to Jerusalem?!
There are some great modern worship leaders at the moment - Chris Tomlin, Robin Mark, Matt Redman and Tim Hughes to name a few.
On the more 'unconventional' side, yet another Third Day fan here! I also like Jars of Clay, Delirious and David Crowder.
I've listened to a cd of the Psalm Drummers a while back but it didn't really grab me, I think I would have preferred to watch the dvd maybe.
